Inside Out Festival 2015: ‘Singing Inside Out’ workshop and opening performance

Love to sing?

This incredible one day workshop gives you the unique opportunity to learn to sing Opera and perform it the same day in front of a public audience at the grand opening of the Inside Out Festival 2015!

We are inviting members of the public as well as staff and students from TCCE member Universities to come together with opera maestro Peter Knapp (Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance) to spend a day exploring the inside out of singing, developing their power, range, stamina and true tone quality in a lively workshop.

The day will also involve learning some favourite choruses, preparing participants to take part in an evening concert that evening, called The Opera, where they will perform together with soloists and the London International Sinfonia.

The Opera, conducted and presented by Peter Knapp, highlights music by Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and Tchaikovsky and will include choruses such as Toréador! (Carmen), the Easter Hymn (Cavalleria Rusticana) and Nessun dorma (Turandot).

All abilities welcome! If you love to sing and would like to get to the heart of how it’s done, please register your place here

Peter Knapp
Peter Knapp certainly knows his opera inside out: after Cambridge, he trained in London and Italy and enjoyed a singing career which saw him sing most of the major operatic baritone roles, including Don Giovanni, at the London Coliseum and Monteverdi’s Orfeo, at the Maggio Musicale in Florence. Mid-career he set up his own company and began re-working, directing and conducting the mainstream opera repertoire, touring extensively in the UK and France and presenting seasons in London at Sadlers Wells and at the South Bank and Barbican Concert Halls. A skilful trainer of singers, instrumentalists and actors, he currently teaches at Trinity Laban and Central St Martins. He regularly presents his show The Opera which gives a light hearted history of the genre with plentiful illustrations and within which he encourages lively audience participation. When he stirred the 1,000-strong audience at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre to join with him in the Toreador’s Chorus, he won the accolade from The Scotsman critic: “An expert communicator of enthusiasm!”
