Building Urban Cultures is a conference about the transformation of the cultural landscapes (physical and conceptual) of cities, through collaborations and partnerships across sectors and cultural forms. The current economic crisis places this in sharp relief.
The conference will include consideration of the roles that might be played by the community, higher education institutions, artists, cultural workers, developers and other agencies, in cross-sectoral collaborations especially in harsh economic times. These will involve a mixture of interrogating good practice and discussion, leading to recommendations and proposals for current and future practice.
Speakers include: Sarah Weir, Head of Arts and Cultural Strategy at the Olympic Delivery Authority, Stephen Foster, Director John Hansard Gallery, Martin Bright, CEO of New Deal of the Mind, Conference Chair, Godfrey Brandt of Birkbeck, University of London.
Cost: £50 until September 10th, £60 thereafter, lunch included.
